Guides
Set up TailGPT, step by step.
Four short guides, in the order you will need them.
Getting started in five minutes
Sign up, confirm your email, and you land on your dashboard. A new account starts on the free trial: one website, up to 500 of its pages read, one chatbot, and 20 test questions — enough to see real answers from your own pages before you pay.
- Add your website. Paste your address on the Websites page.
- Choose the pages it reads. TailGPT lists the pages your site has and ticks a sensible starting set. Adjust it.
- Let it read them. A few minutes for most sites.
- Create a chatbot and pick a role. Support, Sales, FAQ or Custom.
- Try it. Ask it the questions your customers actually ask, before it is on your site.
- Choose a plan, then copy the code. It is one line of code, and it appears once you have a plan.
- Paste it into your website, just before the closing
</body>tag.
The bubble appears in the corner of your site. Anywhere you can paste that one line works, and there is no plugin to install. Visitors need no account, and each answer links the page it came from.
Choosing which pages it reads
Choose the pages a customer would ask about: prices, delivery, returns, opening hours, what you actually sell. Skip blog archives, press releases and old campaign pages — they add reading time without adding answers.
Your plan sets how many pages TailGPT reads. On a 25-page plan, a 500-page shop still has about 25 pages that matter, and they are almost always the policy and product pages.
When you change your website, TailGPT does not know until it reads it again: open Websites, adjust the ticked pages if you need to, and read it. A few minutes later the chatbot answers from the new content.
Training it on PDFs and documents
Not everything you know is on your website. A price list lives in a PDF, the warranty is a Word file.
Drag those into the Documents card on the Websites page: PDF, Word or text files, as many as you like, with no plan limit. Each is read and searchable within seconds, and answers start using it straight away.
- Reading your website again never touches your documents. They stay.
- A scanned PDF cannot be read. If the file is a photograph of a page, there is no text in it, and TailGPT says so rather than quietly indexing nothing. A version with selectable text works.
Uploading a corrected file under the same name replaces the old one, so the chatbot never has to choose between last year's prices and this year's.
Picking a role
A role is the job you give a chatbot:
| Role | Answers like |
|---|---|
| Support | Calm and factual: policies, delivery, returns |
| Sales | Products and pricing, pointing to the next step |
| FAQ | Short and direct, no small talk |
| Custom | Whatever instructions you write |
What no role can change: every role answers only from your pages, shows where each answer came from, and says it could not find anything when your pages do not cover the question. A Sales role sells what your website says exists — it cannot be talked into promising more.
One website can have several chatbots, each with its own snippet, so you can put a different one on different pages.
